Safety stop

Turn the computer off before opening the case or changing internal connections. Unplug it before touching components. Stop if you smell burning, see damaged parts, or are not comfortable continuing.

Check the external path first

The monitor has power and is awake.
The monitor input matches the cable in use.
The cable is fully seated at the monitor and the PC.
If the PC has a graphics card, the display cable is connected to the graphics card—not the motherboard video port.
A different known-good cable, input, or monitor was tried when available.

Capture the boot evidence

The power button starts the system normally.
The keyboard responds to a lock-key light or similar signal.
The motherboard shows a CPU, DRAM, VGA, or BOOT debug light. Record which one below.
A POST code, beep pattern, or on-screen logo appears.

Choose one next safe step

Do not change several things at once. Pick the first unchecked step that fits the evidence.

Reseat the external display cable and confirm the monitor input again.
Power off, unplug, and remove nonessential USB devices before trying one boot.
If a debug light identifies a component, check that component's motherboard manual before reseating anything.
Stop and prepare a handoff when the machine still gives no display, shows a persistent debug light, or the evidence is unclear.
